I'm almost finished my first ever EPP quilt!

So I thought it was time to share my hexagon template

It's now free to download from my website!

I am just using precut scraps for EPP, so this hexagon size was designed especially for use with 3" scrappy squares.

That's right, you don't need to cut them into hexagons! Just go ahead and use the squares. The excess would end up in the scrap bin usually but this way it's included in the quilt adding extra warmth.
Go download the PDF, print on card stock and you'll have 16 hexagons ready for cutting around whilst watching TV or whatever else you like to do whilst slow stitching.

Scrappy Play

In late 2022 whilst living in temporary accommodation and waiting to repatriate to Australia I sewed 25 scrappy improv blocks with multicoloured fabrics that were leftover after colour sorting a batch of scrap fabrics I was gifted.

This week I joined the blocks to make a small quilt top perfect to make my dogs and extra kennel pad/training pad. It won't get basted and quilted until next month but at least it's ready for that phase!
Here's a video that better shows the array of scraps included.

Not much goes to waste in my studio, I love scrappy projects!

Thistle Inspiration

Colour inspiration can be found all around us.

This week's inspiration quilt palette was conceived of after doing a colour study on this photo of a thistle!

I've always thought these thistles were beautiful despite being considered a weed, so when I saw one whilst hiking I had to photograph it for a quilt palette!

Would you sew with this palette?

Eye Spy Adventures BOM - April Block

It's such fun hosting my free BOM each year, this year we're working on my Eye Spy Adventures pattern:

And I've been wanting to sew that hot air balloon block since I designed it a couple of years ago! So it was great to finally pattern test it!

Quilt Palette Inspiration

Sky Blue

Cloudy Off White

Forest Green

Bark Brown

These four colours have high contrast so they make a fantastic quilt palette.

I always say contrast and pattern are the keys to a great quilt, far more important than colour selection! I know some will disagree but believe me it's true!
