A couple of months ago I was gifted scraps by fellow sewists Carol and Teresa. I spent hours color sorting them into all the colors of the rainbow and everything in between. I ended up with one pile that featured multicolored fabrics that I felt didn't really fall into any other category. So when we moved to our current temporary apartment accommodations I bought that pile of fabric with me (the rainbow piles were sent to Australia in our shipping container.
I planned to cut those fabrics a couple of ways:
- Strips cut to 2.25" wide for scrappy bindings
- 4" squares
- Offcuts set aside for improv piecing
Yesterday I spent hours cutting lots of those fabrics into 4" squares and then I improv foundation paper pieced twenty five 5 x 5" blocks with the offcuts!

It's now a couple of very organized piles instead of one messy pile!
It's always fun trimming improv blocks and seeing the messiness turn into fun, cute quilt blocks.
